Recent BCTS Contract Award (December, 2008)

EDS was recently awarded a contract to evaluate and make recommendations on a number of stream crossings in eight high-value watersheds on Vancouver Island. The publicly tendered project was awarded by British Columbia Timber Sales.

The project includes field investigations, as well as the development of an implementation plan for the replacement of structures found to impede fish passage in the Taylor, Nahmint, Nitinat, and Gordon Rivers (among others). Outcomes of this plan will likely create public opportunities for earthworks and culvert/bridge specialists. Project planning has begun and the work is anticipated to be completed by the end of March 2009.

Recognizing the importance of formal education in our field of practice, and in keeping with our objective of donating $1000.00 per year by 2010, EDS will be increasing the financial value of its Academic Achievement Award to $900.00 in 2009. The award is issued to a student that has demonstrated a strong commitment to academic success in the Fisheries & Aquaculture Technology Diploma Program at Vancouver Island University (VIU).
